CHALLENGE OF AN OLR ORGANIZER

If only, there is a way for me to turn back the time, I would not have offered my assistance to organize the Mount-Sea Oneloft. I probably might have saved the Organizer from spending so much money and time from a seemingly un-ending problems.

We have witnessed how a young energetic person in the name of Joseph Yap worked very hard to fulfill a dream of having a successful oneloft race in the Philippines. After seeing his persistency, despite of a failure in the so called Labrador OLR, he seemed more challenged in standing up after the bad fall. With a sympathetic feeling, I have commited myself to assist him in the best that I could. Mount-Sea was offered to him as a new venue and many more people have finally agreed to help in different ways.

So far, The MS-OLR is running on its third year. We could conclude that it was successful, as it is the first time that OLR in the Philippines was able to hold this long. But all of these success comes with a price. His family and business were both affected because of the time that he is spending to tender the MS-OLR.

We are supporting him without having any personal benefits. These are done voluntarily to give him all the moral, physical and financial supports to let the whole world racing pigeon hobbyists know that the Philippines could also runs an OLR professionally and successfully.

MS-OLR will have it's final event on March 3, 2012. We are very confident that more fanciers will join and more participants is expected in the coming year. The biggest challenge right now is
how the Organizer could continue to improve the operations without sacrificing too much.

After so long, I finally have a chance to join the OLR Organizer again to Rosario, Cavite. We arrived the loft at about 8:00am. Joseph has called the loftmen and shared a simple breakfast from Jollibee with them. We then instructed the loftmen to prepare for the deworming process. While the loftmen were busy preparing, we took the opportunity to check on the loft extension and discuss what else to be done. A few minutes after past 8:30am, we have started giving the In & Out deworming capsules to 630 birds.

We were amazed to see so many different type of worms in the floor after 1-1/2 hrs. Pictures were taken so we can share it with the other fanciers. The birds were much much healthier compared to the same period last year. Two months from now, the road trainings will start and I hope that most of them would be able to make it to the last leg of Mt-Sea OLR 2011 series race.

UNENDING TASKS OF AN ORGANIZER

I am referring to Joseph Yap, the Organizer of Mount-Sea OLR. This morning, I travelled with him to Rosario, Cavite for a visit to the OLR. What I thought was a beautifully constructed loft last year turned out to be not good enough.

This year, four air ventilators were added to reduce the heat inside the loft during the summer months. Then, the landing board appeared too small and was eventually extended. Simultaneous with the constructions of an aviary for the pigeons to take a bath, a living quarter with a clean bath room was also provided for the comfort of the loftmen.

With the changes in the landing board, all the former super traps were replaced with a new one built by Douglas. The interior arrangement of the loft (as suggested by Jaime Chua) was likewise adjusted to make it easier for the loftmen to feed and give clean water to the birds everyday.

When the rainy season started late in July, the loft inside appeared too windy and cold for the birds. Thus, jalousy windows were installed to control the air flow. Temporary aviary was also installed to help the youngs settle in the loft.

In the first week of this month (DECEMBER). the technical team from Benzing inspected the loft and was astonished to see the MT-SEA OLR. "The loft and location are superb! It's one of the best that I have seen". Remarks of Mr. Reinhard Versell from Austria.

With the new e-clock introduced by Benzing and sponsored by Merchor De Asis. We have to make an ocular inspections to see how we can modify the trapping system for an eventual migration to electronic clocking. The first ever to be introduced in the Philippines. However, the Organizer has to be very careful not to frighten the birds as road trainings will start this week.

While at the site, we also discussed how to extend the loft to accomodate more birds next year. From our discussion, it seem that the MT-SEA OLR loft is just halfway finished. Thus, two thumbs up to JOSEPH YAP for his energy, passion and dedication.

READY FOR ROAD TRAININGS

My two sons have their HP team building outing at Mount Sea Resort last Friday to Saturday. I have volunteered to fetch them last Saturday, since I want to visit the loft at the same time. It was a very pleasant visit, especially seeing the OLR birds in good conditions. My congratulations to Manny Dela Cruz (loft supervisor) for the nice job! This was a big contrast to the sight during the month of May, when most of the birds were sicked.



I would also like to congratulate Aaron for the nice video. The birds were like dancing in the air. As I watch the video, It seems that their formations looks more like a tornado or fireworks.

TOTAL ENTRIES AS OF MAY 31, 2010

Mount Sea OneLoft has received a total of 565 birds from 103 participants. There are many slots still under reserved. Thus, I personally believe that the capacity of the loft will be filled to its maximum.

PICTURE TAKING

Together with my 2 kids, 4 volunteers from CRPA and our new loft Supervisor Manny Dela Cruz, we have started taking pictures of the entries in Mount Sea OLR this morning. I am glad that Manny volunteered to assist our Organizer Joseph Yap in the daily supervision of the loft. The total entries as of today is 438 from almost a hundred's participants. It was really fun working with people in the same hobby, as there was no single dull moment.

LOFT VISIT

I went to Mount Sea at around 11:00am. On the way, my car aircon stayed on high speed as the temperature outside was extremely hot. When I reached the place and parked my car, I rushed in to the loft and saw Joseph Yap and Eric Distor comfortably seated inside. I went around and check every compartment, the whole loft is cool and you can really feel the sea breeze flowing into the loft and exiting through the four ventilators newly installed. Outside, you can see the four galvanized ventilators spinning like choppers.

We have lunch together inside the newly renovated Tangway Restaurant. The Organizer showed me the list of entries totalling 406 birds from 83 participants. I was likewise informed that many members are encountering some problems with their breeding and are requesting for an extension of the deadline of May 31, 2010.
